My friend used to say “Good optics equals good mechanics!” I don’t think he was wrong so let’s be careful here 😉
The task here is to position the front lens in a correct place in front of the sensor and to keep it there securely. And also to provide options for all sorts of connections and ad hoc screw holes.
I’ll try 3D-printing a frame block into which both the front lens and the sensor can be attached securely. That will be the center piece of the whole instrument and hopefully I don’t need much more mechanics before field testing it. Maybe just a simple case for the controller card.
For the selected lens (f=25 mm plano-convex) I’m thinking of something like this.
